Why searching God in Shrines?

Very sad scenes at the Jodhpur shrine as stampede lead to lost of lifes.
It's the second such tragedy in a gap of 2 months in India and its really unfortunate. Are we seeking God only in festive seaons? that too in shrines?
Why searching God in shrines? why can't we seek god who within us and why can't we show God to others through our love, kindness and compassion? rather searching in shrines. because God lives in us and in our actions...that is what i believe.
(N.B. I'm not opposing people visiting shrines but why only during Festive seasons)
